SDGC membership is not required.
Participants will fire 50 shots for record plus 5 sighting shots at 100 yards on reduced scale targets simulating 200 yard, 300 yard and 600 yard targets.
Firearms and Equipment Allowed:
A. Service Rifle – M1 Garand, M1A, AR-15, M1 Carbine or service rifle from another country.
B. NRA Match Rifle – A center fire rifle with metallic sights and a magazine capable of holding not less than 5 rounds of ammunition. The rifle should be capable of being reloaded with an additional 5 rounds during the rapid fire stages (clip fed or detachable magazine).
C. No palm rest or hook butt plates are allowed.
D. Slings may be used in all but the STANDING POSITION.
E. Shooting pads or mats are allowed as long as they do not provide artificial support and are available at the range.
F. Spotting scopes are allowed and are available from the range master.
G. No optical sights are allowed.
Course of Fire:
5 sighting shot, any position-5 minutes,
20 shots SLOW FIRE PRONE on simulated 600 yard target (SR-31) – 20 minutes,
10 shots PRONE-FROM-STANDING RAPID FIRE on simulated 300 yard target (SR-21) – 70 seconds
10 shots STANDING SLOW FIRE on simulated 200 yard target (SR-1) – 10 minutes,
10 shots SITTING-FROM-STANDING on simulated 200 yard target (SR-1) – 60 seconds
RIFLES ARE AVAILABLE TO SIERRA DESERT GUN CLUB MEMBERS AT NO COST.
Any member wishing to shoot a club owned M1 Garand and ammunition should make prior arrangements with the Match Director.
Only approved Garand-appropriate ammunition may be used in these rifles.
Some Garand ammo is available for sale to SDGC members at the match (you MUST call no later than 6:00pm Friday to arrange this).
Rifle actions will be kept open except when shooters are on the firing line and have been told that their preparation period has started. NO RIFLES SHALL BE LOADED UNTIL THE “LOAD” COMMAND HAS BEEN GIVEN BY THE RANGE OFFICER. When a Competitor is not on the firing line, all rifles will be stored in the supplied rifle rack or in their vehicles with the actions open.
CMP M-1 GARAND PURCHASE QUALIFICATION:
Completing this match meets one of the two requirements to purchase an M-1 Garand rifle through the Civilian Marksmanship Program. The second requirement is membership in a CMP affiliated club (such as the Sierra Desert Gun Club) or state association (California Rifle and Pistol Association).
